Police to mark 150th anniversary

All arrangements are in place to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Police on September 03, 2016, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara said.

The Police is the third oldest institute functioning in the country and it is the one and only institute which is functioning to uphold law and peace in the island, he added.

The theme for the 150th anniversary of Sri Lanka Police is “Journey Par Excellence” (Vishishtathwaye Gamanak). A special logo to mark the 150th anniversary of the Police had also been launched under the patronage of Law and Order and Southern Development Minister Sagala Rathnayaka.

The main ceremony of the 150th anniversary celebrations will be held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Police Field Force Headquarters grounds on September 03.

The celebrations will be conducted in two main parts. They are upgrading the police service and making the police service more public friendly through its upgrading.

In line with the anniversary celebrations, a three day International Police Conference will also be held in Sri Lanka from October 4 to 6. It will be held at the Kingsbury Hotel in Colombo and 27 countries have already confirmed their participation.

In addition several competitions among schoolchildren will also be organized.
