‘Exercise – Cormorant Strike VII- 2016’, the annual Field Training Exercise (FTX) organized by the Sri Lanka Army will be launched from Kokilai with the participation of Sri Lanka Army, Navy, Air Force and representatives from foreign countries s to commence on September 03, 2016.
This was revealed at a media briefing held at the Sri Lanka Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Regiment mess.
Around 2500 infantrymen including largely from the Army’s Commandoes and Special Forces, 638 naval personnel and 506 Air Force personnel are to take part in this year’s exercise. 49 foreign participants and observers from Bangladesh, China, India, Japan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and USA have also confirmed their participation at the exercise.
FTX Cormorant Strike initiated by Army with the participation of the Navy and Air Force has been designed for deployment of troops in a war milieu of Special Operations at any given moment and planned for conduct of joint operations as one team, using manoeuvrist approach, encompassing planning , execution and command.
This year’s exercise has aimed at training participants on patrolling, infiltration/ ex-filtration, reconnaissance and surveillance, combat tracking, link-ups, caches, demolitions, raids, ambushes, cut-off and blocks, rescue missions, cat sniping, urban fighting and disaster relief missions.
The exercise will end on 25 September (2016) with a mock display on the penultimate day.
The Cormorant Strike VII planned and excuted by a panel of Exercise Directors with the coordination of Directorate of Training is commanded by Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe as Exercise Director. Brigadier Ralf Nugera, Brigadier Pradeep Silva and Brigadier Priyantha Perera act as Deputy Directors of the exercise while Colonel Nishantha Herath is the Deputy Director Additional of the exercise.
Captain HRFM Tissera and Air Commodore PDKT Jayasinghe respectively command the Navy and Air Components of the Cormorant Strike exercise.
