The SL Navy says, information has come to light that Indian fishermen are engaging in a drug trade with Sri Lanka, under the guise of fishing.Navy Media Spokesperson Captain Akram Alawi said, the drugs are being smuggled after concealing the stock of illegal drugs, under the fishing gear.
Work has commenced to gather intelligence in this regard. He added that a number of maritime patrol boats have been dispatched to arrest the wrongdoers.
Twenty Indian fishermen are currently in Sri Lanka custody. However, the Ministry of Fisheries note that both the countries are “at fault.”
