The Ceylon Teachers’ Union has demanded that the names of students admitted to Royal College, Colombo in place of 31 children fraudulently removed from the original list of admissions be released to the media.
General Secretary of the union Joseph Stalin said that amended list should be released to ensure transparency in the process.
Stalin said Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam should release the original list of admission and the amended version thereof.
Last week Minister Kariyawasam suspended admissions to Royal College pending an inquiry. He claimed that an inquiry had revealed that out of 147 Grade One students, 31 had been admitted on the basis of fraudulent documents.
The minister said the documents bore the addresses of several public places, security counters, religious places and business establishments.
“In one of these documents, the address was that of the Northern Province Chief Minister’s residence. The CM was not even aware of what had happened,” the minister said, adding that investigations were continuing.
