The Government says that the Treasury’s decision to release Rs. 3,549 million for the Gin Nilwala Diversion Project at the beginning of last year would be investigated.
Co-Cabinet Spokesman and Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne said on Wednesday that the Cabinet presided over by President Maithripala Sirisena had on Tuesday examined its Sub Committee report, which observed that it was abnormal for the Treasury to release a big sum such as Rs. 3,549 million for a project at the beginning of the year and that it should be probed by the Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID).
Accordingly the Cabinet of Ministers approved their Sub Committees suggestion and directed that the FCID conducts an inquiry into the allocation of funds for the Gin Nilawala for the six month period commencing January 1 , 2015, the Minister said.
