Authorities are continuing to take action against tri forces deserters who have failed to obtain legal discharge during the General Amnesty periods provided in the past, the Ministry of Defense said.
The Ministry of Defense provided two general amnesties last year for the tri forces personnel who are considered as Absent Without Official Leave (AWOL) to seek legal discharge.
Following the end of the most recent month-long amnesty period ended on 31 December 2016, the authorities have arrested one officer and 250 other rank personnel up to Wednesday, 25th January.
During the last amnesty period from 1st -31st December, around 9,000 tri forces deserters including officers and other ranks produced themselves to their respective services seeking legal discharge, according to the Ministry.
The Police and the Department of Immigration and Emigration have been instructed to take appropriate action against tri forces deserters who have failed to obtain legal discharge.
