HRCSL seeks report from Navy Commander on alleged assault on reporter


The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) has sought a report from the Commander of Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, on the alleged assault of a reporter, from an electronic media group, during a protest demonstration in the Hambantota Port premises recently.

Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne has been accused of attacking a journalist of Hiru News despite the journalist identifying himself as a media person at a protest held in the Hambantota Port last month.

HRCSL Commissioner Attorney Saliya Peiris has told media that his officials had recorded a statement from the reporter who had been assaulted. The report had been sought from the Navy Commander in pursuance of the probe into the incident, the official said.
