Five suspects, described as members of the ‘AAVA Group’, were arrested, at a location in Jaffna yesterday, in connection with a petrol bomb attack on a trade stall at Nallur and a separate assault case, police said. The suspects were identified by CCTV footage positioned close to the trade stall that came under the petrol bomb attack, Police said.
Police said the suspects are in the age group of 18 to 21 and residents of Jaffna, Chunnakam and Manipai.
The Police have also recovered two motorcycles, two swords and an iron pole used by the suspects.
According to Police ,the attack on the trade stall took place on 30 January.
Police said the suspects had confessed to the incident adding that it was a contract hit. AAVA Group activists are alleged to have carried out acts of vandalism and assault in the Jaffna District over the past fortnight.The Police have already launched several investigations into the group with the aim of apprehending more suspects.The Jaffna Police is conducting further investigations.
