Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake Tuesday paid a surprise midnight visit to the Sri Lanka Customs Department to observe the operations of the key department under his Ministry.
Without any prior notice, the Minister first visited the Customs Department’s no. 2 container yard in Orugodawatta followed by an unannounced visit to the Customs headquarters.
Continued complaints received by the Minister from the import institutions that the work is slow at the Customs Department prompted the Minister’s sudden visit to the operational sites, the Ministry of Finance said.
Also the visit was aimed at finding out whether the Customs operations are performed regularly during the twenty four hours of the day.
