Probe into any fraud, irregularities concerning Fort land sale

An investigation will be conducted to find out whether any fraud or irregularities occurred in connection with the sale of land opposite Lake House in Fort, Megapolis and Western Development Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said.

He was addressing the Media at the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development.

“In 2007,the Cabinet Subcommittee approved to provide the land opposite Lake House in Fort to Ranka Lanka Pvt. Ltd. on a 30 year lease. And again in 2009, through the Cabinet Subcommittee the lease was increased to 50 years.

The Minister further said that in 2013, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa entered into a MoU with the developer with a new name called Lake Leisure Holdings.

It was subsequently recommended as an “unsolicited project proposal” by the standing cabinet appointed review committee. And approval was given legal to build a Casino as well.

He noted in 2015 after the new government came in, the casino licenses were cancelled. The Australian investor James Packer showed no willingness to invest without a Casino.
