Special security measures for UN Vesak festival

Sri Lanka Police says that special security arrangements will be put in place to provide special security for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other world leaders during their visit to the country next week to attend the UN Vesak festival.

Police spokesman DIG Priyantha Jayakody said that there will be strict security measures in Colomb, Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya and other cities, on the instructions of the IGP.

On the sidelines of the celebrations, Modi is expected to attend a series of religious and other events including the opening of a new hospital in Dickoya, funded by India.

He said a special security plan has been adopted covering the key Buddhist temples across the country where Vesak events will be held.
