Labour Minister W. D. J. Seneviratne has given an assurance that he will initiate action to redress the grievances of the Labour Tribunal Representatives.
The minister gave this assurance when he met the representatives of the All Island Labour Tribunals Authority Representatives Association.
Secretary of the Association S. M. R. Bandara told that his organisation had expressed its gratitude to Minister Seneviratne for taking effective action to redress the grievances of the Representatives at Labour Tribunals.
The Labour Tribunals in some districts had prevented representatives from appearing on behalf of the petitioner employees who had been terminated, Bandara said.
The Labour Tribunal Representatives charged petitioner workers much less than lawyers, Bandara explained.
Lawyers were exploiting the situation as the representatives had been kept out of the tribunals since 2016, Bandara alleged.
