SL tea industry suffers Rs.600 million loss due to floods


Jayantha Edirisingha, Commissioner of the Sri Lanka Tea board stated that the tea industry in Sri Lanka has suffered from a Rs.600 million loss due to the floods.

The bout of torrential rain that hit the country damaged 26 tea factories, out of which 14 were completely destroyed.

Edirisingha added that the situation will affected the supply of tea produced by the country.

The  Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries added that steps will been taken to compensate the owners of small scale tea plantations.
