Minister of Megapolis and Western Development, Patali Champika Ranawaka stated when it comes to solving the issue surrounding the SAITM (South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine) campus, the parents of the students should take a more active stance on the situation.
The sentiments were brought forward during a meeting organized by the parents of students enrolled at state run medical schools, calling for the nationalization of the private medical school in Malabe.
Ranawaka added that many of the bright minds in the country have pursued streams of study pertaining to Medicine and Engineering, and that this was a privilege that could be enjoyed due to the existence of free education.
He went onto say that although many countries have tried to implement the system of free education, the question of “why should I pay for someone else education” has constantly been questioned, and that we have been quite lucky as a country since he had not met a single individual who had asked that question, as of yet.
However, such a trend has slowly infiltrated local society in the past couple of months.
