Attacks on religious places: two arrested in Kurunegala


The police have made two more arrests over incidents relating to hate crimes against religious places, the police said today.

The suspects have been arrested over their alleged involvement in a petrol bomb attack on a church in Kurunegala, police Spokesperson Priyantha Jayakody said.

The suspects were remanded until 19 June after being produced before the Kurunegala Magistrate’s Court.

According to police, they are activists of the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) organization. The Spokesperson added a manhunt is underway to apprehend four more persons following the incident.

Police are also hunting for the BBS’s Secretary General, Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero, who is in hiding.
