Court grants permission for Tissa Attanayake to travel abroad

The Colombo High Court has temporarily lifted the travel ban imposed on former UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake, reporters said.

The court allowed Attanayake to travel overseas following a request made though a Counsel when the case was taken into consideration today.

Attanayake had sought permission to travel overseas to visit his daughter from June 23 to July 12, reporter added.

The former Health Minister, who was arrested and remanded for allegedly preparing a fraudulent document, was granted bail on December 05, 2016. He is accused of forging the signatures of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and President Maithripala Sirisena in a letter. Attanayake, who defected from the then opposition and was made Health Minister for less than three weeks, is accused of fabricating the document to discredit the witnesses of the case.
