Six young women arrested by police following a complaint of financial fraud amounting to Rs. 24 million by to a popular pawning centre in Kandy were remanded till May 24 by the Kandy Chief Magistrate Indika Attanayake, on Wednesday (17).
The six women had committed frauds at the pawning centres at Kotugodella Veediya and Raja Veediya, Kandy, the court was told.
Investigations have revealed that the suspects between 19 and 25 years of age had committed the alleged offences for eight months.
Investigations were conducted by Police Crime Investigation Division of Colombo.
Police have launched an operation to arrest a man named Ramesh from Kengalla near Kandy in connection with the fraud.
