One cannot be a Sri Lankan, if that person either hates or condemns other religions and cultures, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said.
Wickremesinghe made the observation while making a special statement in Colombo on Wednesday (14) afternoon.
“I’m proud to be a Sri Lankan, and I respect all the religions and all cultural aspects,” he told reporters.
Wickremesinghe added that the Cabinet of Ministers has directed the law enforcement authorities to take all necessary steps in accordance with the law of the land, against instigators and perpetrators of violence and hate speech targeting any religious and ethnic groups in the country.
“Laws will be strictly implemented against them and if required we will introduce new laws,” he added.
