Moragahakanda project to add 25 MW to National Grid


It was reported that the Moragahakanda Hydro Power Project is set to add 25 MW to the National Grid.

All research regarding the Moragahakanda hydro power plant has been duly completed, it was also reported. The electrical engineers of the project say that following the anticipated rain fall, the power plant will be able to contribute to the National Grid.

The Moragahakanda hydro power plant consist of two turbines generating 7.5 MW and two more generating 5 MW. One turbine will release water after utilisation to the Mahakanadarawa Reservoir via the Elahera cannel where as another will release its used water to the Giritale, Minneriya, Kawudulla and Kantale reservoirs. The Moragahakanada reservoir is located 132 metres above the sea level.
