A senior Assistant Bursar of the Postgraduate Institute of the University of Peradeniya has gone missing after allegedly misappropriating Rs. 32 million out of university funds.
Peradeniya Vice Chancellor Prof. Upul B. Dissanayaka said the incident had been reported to the CID for investigation while a separate internal probe was underway.
The bursar had withdrawn the money from an account with a bank saying that the money would be deposited with another bank, which offered a higher interest rate, the VC said.
They money was withdrawn on June 15 and the bursar had not come to work since then, Prof. Dissanayake said.
Meanwhile, the university has interdicted the senior Assistant Bursar.
