SLAF sends first replacement aviation unit under UN mission to South Sudan

The first replacement group of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Aviation Unit under the United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan (UNMISS) left the country on Tuesday (27th June), Air Force media said.

The group of 56 SLAF personnel departed the country from the Bandaranaike International Airport for the annual changing of first group personnel left June 2016.

The Aviation Unit in South Sudan under the UNMISS was the SLAF’s second aircraft deployment overseas. The helicopter deployment is currently carrying out VIP transportation, transportation of food and equipment, domestic flying, para dropping and medical evacuation in the South Sudan, in support of the overall UN mandate for that nation.
